How long are the waiting times and when is there availability?

Whether there is a waiting list, and the length of the waiting list, varies by location and sometimes even by childcare day. This is because there is constant movement, for example due to relocations, cancellations, or changes in childcare needs. Additionally, every location and type of childcare has a maximum number of places according to GGD guidelines.

As soon as we receive a complete registration from you for a specific location, we carefully review the possibilities for placing your child and your preferences. Sometimes there is availability immediately, but it may also take a while before a suitable place becomes available. We therefore always carefully consider your wishes and are happy to think along with you about alternatives if your preferred days are not immediately possible.

We schedule up to 6 months in advance. Is your desired start date further in the future? Then it is still too early to say anything about the waiting times. In that case, we place your application on the waiting list and process it as soon as the schedule for that period is drawn up.

We advise all parents to register their child (without obligation) in advance. This allows us to review your situation in a timely manner and, if necessary, reserve a place on the waiting list. You can always change your registration, withdraw it, or refuse an offer free of charge.

I have not received an offer yet. Why is that?

After your application, you will receive a response from the Planning & Placement department within 14 days at the latest. This may be a confirmation of the registration or a request for additional information if the application turns out to be incomplete.

The colleagues at Planning & Placement carefully check whether a place is available for your child(ren) from your desired start date.

Is your desired start date further in the future? Then we will contact you at least 6 months in advance to discuss the possibilities with you. This is also indicated in the registration confirmation e-mail.

If your start date falls within these 6 months and you have not received a response or confirmation of your application 14 days after your registration, please contact Planning & Placement.

How does priority work for placement?

When placing children, we look not only at the order of application but also at the composition of the groups. We ensure that the age distribution within each group is balanced. This is important to comply with the statutory staff-to-child ratio and to guarantee smooth progression.

When multiple children are eligible for a single available spot, we apply the following principles:

  • Applications for full days (or school hours) take precedence over applications for half days.
  • In the case of equal applications, we consider the date of application.
  • In addition, we take priority criteria into account, such as siblings of children already placed, children transitioning from daycare to out-of-school care, and children with (potential) language or developmental delays.

This way, we try to fill every place as carefully and suitably as possible. In our placement policy, you can read all the applications and conditions that a placement must meet.

When will my application be processed?

Once you have received a registration confirmation, it will state how quickly your application will be processed.

If you would like your child to start childcare within 6 months, we will provide feedback regarding the available options as soon as possible.

Is your desired start date further in the future? In that case, we will contact you at least 6 months in advance to discuss the possibilities. This will also be stated in your registration confirmation.

Sometimes a suitable spot is available immediately, but it may also take more time. If we are unable to meet your preferred days immediately, we are happy to work with you to find alternatives so that your child can still start as soon as possible.

What happens if I don't get a spot (yet)?

No spot may be available at the time of your application. In that case, we will inform you of this and place your child on the waiting list free of charge.
The length of the waiting list changes regularly because there is constant movement within the childcare facility, for example due to relocations, cancellations, or changes in childcare needs.

The Planning & Placement department continuously evaluates the waiting list. As soon as a spot becomes available, they will contact you to discuss the options and a start date.

Has your childcare need changed in the meantime, for example due to different working days or an adjusted end date of your leave? Please inform Planning & Placement as soon as possible. They will adjust your application and review the possibilities for placement again.
